When you win a gold in a world competitionyou are rightfully among the stars. You are Sara Anzanello, from San Donà di Piave, a life dedicated to the volleyballbecause when you marry a sport, it is like a marriage for eternity, it gets into your blood, it is part of you.
Sara started playing in the youth team of the Volley Salgareda. Her debut in the A2 series was in the 1995-96 season with Volley Latisana. Here Sara continued her journey for three seasons, in A2 and B1.
A gold medallist in '98 with the national under-19 team, Sara is already showing what she is worth as a centre, how impenetrable her wall is.
278 national team appearances and in 2002 a gold medal at the world championshipThis was followed by other prestigious awards: 2 World Cups (2007, 2011), 2 Silver medals at the World Grand Prix (2004, 2005), 1 Silver at the European Championships (2005), 2 Bronze medals at the World Grand Prix (2006, 2008) and as a personal award, the 'Best Wall' at the World Grand Prix in 2006.
In 1999 and 2000 she was recruited by AGIL Trecate, which became her home for ten years, reaching A1 in 2001 and winning two Italian Cups, two CEV Cups, a Top Teams Cup, and coming close to the championship several times.
She was the best player at the wall in 2009, when with the jersey of the Villa Cortese had an excellent championship and won an Italian Cup, also for the following year.
An uphill career, with one success after another: two finals for the league title, another World Cup in 2011. Then, the signing with Azərreyl Voleybol Klubu, with whom she played until 14 March 2013, when she was hospitalised for an urgent liver transplant. But volleyball and her love for the sport is stronger than anything, and the great Sara Anzanello returns in 2014 to help out as support team manager for Club Italia in Serie A2. The following year she stepped onto the court again, with Novara's AGIL Volley, playing as opposite.
Today the world of volleyball loses a great player, an impeccable sportswoman, a courageous and unbeatable woman, a difficult wall to overcome. Today the world of great volleyball has a beautiful new star in its firmament. We like to remember her like this, with her arms spread wide in victory and a smile as golden as the prizes won on the court with the determination of a tiger.
